Riesenstein (Zirzow)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The giant stone or Krappmühlenstein is a boulder and shell stone that is located in the valley of the Malliner Water east of Zirzow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The boulder is north of the railway line near the ruins of the madder mill .

It shows traces of an eventful past. On the surface of the coarse-grained granite block with a volume of 54 m³ and a circumference of 17.5 meters you can clearly see bowls . The five depressions with a diameter of 5 to 7 cm and a depth of 1 to 2 cm, probably originated during the Bronze Age (1800–800 BC) and served cultic purposes. Some modern drill holes testify to the impending fragmentation of the stone around 1900. The most striking attribute of the giant stone, however, is its radial splitting. It was created in early May 1945 when the granite block was hit by a tank shell.
