The Rifugio Chalet de l'Épée (Italian) or Refuge Chalet de l'Épée (French) is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Graian Alps . It is located at an altitude of 2370  m within the municipality of Valgrisenche on the site called Épée des Plontains . The hut is privately managed from the beginning of April to the end of May and from mid-June to mid-September and offers 77 mountaineers sleeping places during this time.

The refuge is located on high path no. 2 in the Aosta Valley .

rise

The ascent to the hut begins in Surier (or Usselières), a district of Valgrisenche at 1785  m . Surier is at the end of the Beauregard reservoir.

From there the path first leads up the slope to the south via an unpaved road. After a few meters, the path to the refuge branches off to the left. The path to the Bezzi hut , however, follows the course of the Dora di Valgrisenche (French: Doire de Valgrisenche ).

For the ascent of Surier, which does not show any technical difficulties, 2 hours are estimated.

history

The refuge was built in 1986 on the site of an old alpine pasture. In 1996 the building suffered heavy rainfall and was reopened in the summer of 2000.
