The Rifugio Giuseppe Melano ( 1060  m slm ) (also: Casa Canada) is a managed refuge in the Cottian Alps of the northern Italian metropolitan city of Turin / Piedmont region . The log cabin of the Club Alpino Italiano , built in 2011, belongs to the municipality of Frossasco and stands below the Rocca Sbarua climbing rock near Monte Freidour .

history

The first Rifugio Melano was built in 1971. In the run-up to the 2006 Winter Olympics , the plan for the new building was developed, which was completed in 2011 as 'Casa Canada'. Above the hut on the summit of Monte Freidour there has been a monument since 1994 in memory of the crew of a British transport plane that crashed in October 1944, loaded with weapons, ammunition and food for the partisans of the Italian Resistance .
