Rigó Jancsi (born August 23, 1858 in Pákozd, † February 3, 1927 in New York City ) was a Hungarian violinist. A pastry is named after him.

Life

Rigó was a famous Gypsy primate who met the American millionaire daughter Clara Ward, Princesse de Caraman-Chimay (1873-1916) (1873-1916) , who had previously been married to a Belgian prince , and subsequently married. The romance attracted great public attention in 1896–98. Relatively soon after the wedding, however, there was another divorce due to Rigó's infidelity.

cake

The cake of the same name is a two-layer glazed chocolate cake with a thick layer of chocolate cream filling.

There is uncertainty about the connection between the violinist's name and the cake. It may just be an advertising stunt of a confectioner.
