The company Riga Mainz , colloquially just Riga , is a crane service and heavy haulage company based in Mainz , Rhineland-Palatinate .

The family business from Mainz first became known nationwide with its entry in the Guinness Book of Records with a 1000 t telescopic truck crane in 1985. The Gottwald AMK 1000 was specially made for operation as a single piece with a construction period of two years.

In the last few years, the company attracted attention again with numerous reports on German television. Heavy transports and processes for very special goods such as a corkscrew factory or the KATRIN spectrometer for the Karlsruhe Research Center were on display .

history

The company was founded in 1929 as CUNO RIGA in Mainz-Mombach . After the reorientation of the company, the first “Riga crane” with a lifting capacity of 7.5 t was purchased in 1956. The first “Coles” crane superstructure was purchased in 1958. In the following years 10 lattice boom truck-mounted cranes were purchased.

Cuno Riga's daughter Inge took over the business together with her husband Friedel Langer in 1967. In the same year the first telescopic truck crane, a Gottwald AMK 65-42 was bought. In 1982 a 500 t telescopic truck crane Gottwald AMK 500-93 with a hook height of 130 m was put into operation and in 1985 the world's largest 1000 t telescopic truck crane from Gottwald was used. In 1993, the machine park was expanded to include the Liebherr LGD 1800, an 800-tonne lattice boom truck crane.

Uwe Langer took over the management in 1998 and thus founded the 3rd generation in the family business. RIGA MAINZ became a GmbH & Co. KG and invested in a 750 t Liebherr LR 1750/1 lattice boom crawler crane. One year later RIGA EISELE was founded. RIGA MAINZ and Baumann bought a 28-axis Scheuerle SPMT in cooperation in 2001, thus creating new possibilities for heavy transport. In 2002 a high-bay warehouse was built and the company premises were expanded to 14,000 m².

Riga Mainz purchased ten new telescopic cranes from LTM 1030/2 to LTM 1250/1 in 2003. In 2006, RIGA EISELE GmbH was dissolved and Riga Baumann GmbH & Co. KG was founded. The fleet was increased in 2007 by a further 12 axles Scheuerle SPMT.

In 2010 the crane fleet includes the following large equipment:

  • Liebherr LR 1750/1 - in cooperation with Baumann
  • Demag CC 2500-1 - in cooperation with Baumann
  • Liebherr LTM 1500 TYN
  • Liebherr LTM 1350-6.1 TYN
  • Liebherr LTM 1250/1

In July 2013, a new Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 (max. Lifting capacity 750 tonnes, 9 axles) was added, which was used directly to renovate the spire of the western structure of the Mainz Cathedral .
