Rikissa of Denmark
Rikissa of Denmark (* 1174 ; † May 8, 1220 in Ringsted in Denmark ), also Rikiza, was the wife of the Swedish King Erik X. and thus Queen of Sweden .
Life
Rikissa was the daughter of the Danish king Waldemar I (1131–1182) and his wife Sophia (around 1141–1198).
In 1210 Rikissa married King Erik X (1180–1216), who had been King of Sweden since 1208 . Erik X. was probably the first Swedish king to be crowned. From 1210 to 1216 Rikissa of Denmark was Queen of Sweden. The political marriage brought about reconciliation between Sweden and Denmark and the Pope .
Erik X died in 1216. Their only son was born a few months later. The Swedish Imperial Council therefore elected 15-year-old Johann from the warring Sverker family to be king. Rikissa went to Denmark to the court of her brother Waldemar II. There she died relatively young. She is buried in the 12th century St. Bendts Church in Ringsted.
progeny
The marriage resulted in a son and at least three daughters:
- Sophia Eriksdotter, married to Heinrich Borwin III. , Mr. von Rostock
- Märta Eriksdotter, married to Nils Sixtensson Sparre
- Ingeborg Eriksdotter , married to Birger Magnusson von Bjälbo
- King Erik XI. (1216-1250)
