In the Lithuanian language it is derived from rimti and means "the serious one". The male form here is Rimas . In Lithuanian, the i is pronounced briefly.

It is also common (with a long i) in the Arabic- speaking world, the meaning is "gazelle".

The Frisian knows this name also.
