The Rimuss and Strada Wine AG (formerly Rimuss- and winery cream ), headquartered in Hallau is a Swiss beverage company, which was founded in 1954 by Jakob cream. The company develops, produces and markets around 40 grape juice and wine specialties , of which “Rimuss” and “Frizz” are the best-known brands. The shares in the family company were owned by the non-profit Rimuss Foundation, which was controlled by the Rahm family and sold to Davaz Holding in Fläsch in Graubünden in 2017.

history

In 1928, the Hallau farmer Jakob Rahm in Schaffhausen's Klettgau began to plant vineyards using new methods and to sell grapes and wine. In 1945 he produced 3,000 liters of alcohol-free grape juice for the first time, thus creating new sales channels for the local grapes. Jakob Rahm together with his sons Robert and Emil Rahm set up the “Rimuss- und Weinkellerei Rahm”. In 1959 Emil Rahm, who later became known primarily as a conspiracy theorist and publicist of the far right, took over the management of the Hallau-Wilchingen viticulture cooperative.

After the death of their father, the brothers took over the company in 1969. For a long time it belonged to the Rimuss Foundation, which held the majority of shares and votes, and of which Emil Rahm was a board member until 2014. The Rimuss Foundation supported Christian and other non-profit organizations. The company was evangelical under the Rahm brothers ; Board meetings were opened with a prayer.

In 2017 Rimuss ran into financial difficulties, among other things due to excessive sponsorship of a local women's football club and other marketing activities. The winemaker Andrea Davaz acquired the company, restructured it and renamed the winery "Strada". Among other things, the sponsorship meant that the players were officially employed by Rimuss, but did not have to show up for work. After this sponsorship was blown and ended, FC Neunkirch rose from the Swiss top. The fact that Rimuss granted special conditions to around 120 regional winegrowers - including many with a church connection - contributed even more to the financial difficulties. Rimuss paid for the deliveries by crediting the sales to accounts; these earned better interest than bank balances. Another factor is the fact that Rimuss relied too heavily on non-alcoholic sparkling wine for children , the sales of which are declining and which is almost exclusively sold through the very price-conscious large distributors.

Products

«Rimuss» (grape juice)

In 1954, Jakob Rahm, with the help of his sons Emil and Robert, brought the sparkling noble grape juice "Rimuss" onto the market. The product met with great interest and is now used in Switzerland as a generic term for a non-alcoholic solid drink. In 2012, "Rimuss Secco" added to the line, a non-alcoholic sparkling wine made from grape juice and non-alcoholic wine. In addition to Rimuss, the company produces other grape juice products.

Wines

In 1959, the local Hallau wine was first sold under the “Graf von Spiegelberg” brand. Over time, the company developed into the largest grape buyer in the region and expanded its activities into the canton of Zurich and the Bündner Herrschaft . The winery now works with more than 200 grape suppliers from the three regions and (as of 2019) produces around a dozen different wine lines with over 6 million bottles per year with 46 employees.

"Frizz"

1990 followed with «Frizz», a frizzante wine with fruit juice / aroma, the second brand known throughout Switzerland. The product is available in the variants “Pesca”, “Mango”, “Litchi” and “Spritz”.
