The Ringberghaus (also Ringberghotel ) is a hotel east of the city of Suhl and was one of the most controversial new buildings in the Suhl area in the 1970s.

Geographical location

The Ringberghaus is in an extremely exposed location on the summit of the 746 m high Ringberg , a secondary peak of the Adlersberg , with Suhl and Suhl- Goldlauter at its feet. The Ringberghaus defines the horizon from many vantage points on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest to the south (for example from the “Plänckner's view” on the Großer Beerberg , the Großer Hermannsberg or the Gebrannten Stein ).

history

Original usage

The holiday home "Ringberghaus" on January 14, 1986

The Ringberghaus was originally a VdgB holiday hotel and was opened in 1979 with the aim of enabling farmers from rural areas of the GDR to spend their holidays in the mountains of the Thuringian Forest . The Ringberghaus could only be used with a so-called holiday check from the farmers' association. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , the hotel was continued privately and has been operated by RHB Ringberg Hotel Betriebsgesellschaft mbH since June 1997.

Environmental problems

During the construction of the Ringberghaus on the summit of the Ringberg, a considerable part of the summit was removed in order to create a buildable plateau. The excavation was filled in on the upper slope of a lower valley at the foot of the Simson hut one kilometer to the north. Due to this massive intervention on the Ringberg on the one hand and the backfilling of the excavation directly at a popular excursion hut on the other hand, the construction was viewed as at least critical in terms of environmental policy.

Today's hotel

The hotel operated today in the Ringberghaus (Ringberghotel) was part of the Ringhotels hotel cooperation from November 2003 to December 2006 . Since January 1st, 2007 the hotel has been run again without the support of a cooperation. With 290 rooms over 6 floors and over 160,000 overnight stays per year, it is one of the largest hotels in the region and an important economic factor. Due to its location, the hotel is particularly popular with hiking tourists and families, but is also used as a conference hotel.
