The building was created in several construction phases. It was built by Ring-Messehaus AG until 1926 . The complex extends from Tröndlinring to Humboldtstrasse, north of Richard-Wagner-Platz . In the first phase, a 13,000 square meter section was built on the former "Geibels Garten" property by 1922. In 1925 the front building was then increased by a further eight storeys. The Leipzig architect Gustav Pflaume extended the facade with a small portico . A restaurant opened in the basement. In 1926 the exhibition center opened in its planned size.

Two thirds of the building were badly damaged by a bombing raid during the Second World War on the night of December 3rd to 4th, 1943 .

The first Leipzig trade fair after the Second World War opened on May 8, 1946 in the Messehaus am Ring. Initially, exhibitions were only available on the ground floor. After two years the building was largely renovated and rebuilt. This was done according to Oskar Pusch's plans . The north end of the building was extended in 1955 with a five-story frontal building, which brought a further 5000 square meters of usable space. The north and south sides were now adorned with representative head buildings.

Since then, 20,000 square meters of exhibition space has been available. All corridors and corridors in the building complex had a total length of around 4500 meters.

The exhibition center closed in 1994 and was then empty. According to a later press article, the Ring-Messehaus was acquired by the Israeli investor Adi Keizman in 2006 .

In 2013, the part between the two head buildings was demolished. The head buildings are being refurbished and the area in between will be rebuilt for a Travel24.com hotel that should open at the end of 2014. In July 2014 it became clear that the completion of the hotel was being delayed due to problems with the groundwater. The opening, which was planned for 2016, finally took place in spring 2017. In January 2017, the roof received a 15-meter-long neon advertisement. As part of a share deal , Travel24 sold the building in April 2017 to an investment company of the Leipzig-based Vicus Group AG and to GSC Immobilienbeteiligungsgesellschaft mbH and at the same time concluded a long-term lease.
