Ring racers are a group of pedigree pigeons and differ from other domestic pigeons in a special way of flying, the ring beating .

This behavior, promoted by selection, can be derived from courtship , the merging of different forms of floor courtship . The circling of the hen, the turning of the hen in front of the standing hen and the flapping of the wings behind the hen running away, an impressive soaring with wing clapping , became the flying in a circle over the hen with flapping the wings.

Systematics and races

Ring rackets are playing pigeons , which also include Groninger (NL / 1105) and Geldersche Slenken (NL / 1106). In "Nomenclature of breeds of domestic pigeons by characteristics" of Gleichauf (1966), chute and Vogel (1978) the ring bats, besides Slenken and include Smyter (B / 053), a form of dove , a subset of the Pouters on. In the "EE list for pedigree pigeons " (ELRT) of the European Association for Poultry, Pigeon, Bird, Rabbit and Cavia Breeding (EE), ring racers are integrated into the group of porpoises and high-flying pigeons as play flying pigeons .

The special association of breeders of ring racer pigeons in Germany looks after four breeds with ring beating characteristics:

Competitions

Ring racket breeders want to promote both performance and beauty in ring racket breeding. Only ring racket breeders who have participated with their pigeons in the beauty contest and the ring racket performance test can acquire the title of "German Master". In order to measure the performance of the cocks, the special club organizes a ring competition every year before the start of breeding, in which the best turner for each breed and color is determined. The ring lapping points of the cocks thus acquired will be offset against the show points for determining the German master after the show season.
