The ring wall Brunfthof was north of Weimar on the Etter Mountain in the center of a hunting star near the Schloss Ettersburg in Ettersburg in the north of the district Weimarer Land ( Thuringia ).
The ring wall system is dated to the early Middle Ages based on ceramic shards . The inner area of about 90 × 180 m was enclosed by a massive shell limestone wall, the two wall shells were filled with clay and rubble stones. There was a trench both inside and outside, partly as a double trench on the outside. There is no evidence of any development within the ramparts.
The Brunfthof hunting grounds were built between 1733 and 1739 under Ernst August I and partially covered the ramparts. It was used for deer hunting. The complex is said to have been a tower-like building in the style of the Italian Renaissance with a surrounding balcony, whose underground stalking walks ran into the aisles of the Jagdstern. The hunting lodge on the Brunfthof, in the cellar of which an alchemist's workshop is said to have been, was demolished again in 1748.
