The ring wall system Elster , also known as Old Castle , Castle Schönfeld or Old Castle Schönfeld , is a ring wall system in the area of Adorf / Vogtl. near Bad Elster in the Vogtlandkreis in Saxony . It is located within the Zeidelweide and Pfaffenloh nature reserve .
history
The complex was also given the names Schloss Schönfeld or Czidelern . It was part of the settlement of the Vogtland and served to secure the surrounding area. It was probably built around 1100. It can be assumed that it initially consisted of a residential tower , largely made of wood, which was surrounded by palisades and a moat . Traces in the terrain in a forest between Bad Elster and Arnsgrün are still present today. Heinrich de Sconinvelt , mentioned in 1236, seems to have been the first detectable resident of the complex. The mansion later belonged to the von Neuberg family and was the starting point for raids in the late period of the family. Robber baron Friedrich von Neuberg fought a. a. from here the imperial city of Eger . There are many legends about the old castle .
Current condition
A forest trail called Age Schloßweg performs very straight forward from Bad Elster to the remains of the castle . It is part of the Vogtland Panorama Weg . Other paths cross at the facility. It is set back a few meters from the path on a flat slope. A stream flowing to the side feeds the moat. The moat is circular and has a round island in its center.
