In 1903, another Swiss entrepreneur, Louis Rinsoz, entered cigar production. Under the Meccarillos brand , he sold a type of cigar that is still internationally known today.

In 1930 the two companies merged to form Rinsoz & Ormond . Over the decades this has developed into one of the most renowned Swiss producers and distributors of cigars. At the same time, the business activities were expanded to other areas through various acquisitions, as a result of which the company developed into a diversified group with activities in the distribution of gastronomic products for the hotel and catering industry.

Splitting up

As part of the strategic realignment of the food industry which was Rinsoz & Ormond Holding SA in Orior Holding SA renamed. This subsequently developed into a major food company.

The tobacco business combined in Rinsoz & Ormond Tabac SA was taken over by the then French tobacco monopoly SEITA. Rinsoz & Ormond Tabac SA later became the property of the Swiss cigar manufacturer Burger Söhne and was finally dissolved by resolution of the Extraordinary General Meeting on December 17, 2003. The brands Meccarillos, Ormond and Fivaz are produced and sold today by Burger Söhne AG.
