The Rio Cuiabá is a Brazilian river in the state of Mato Grosso , namesake of the city of Cuiabá .

The river, 980 kilometers in length, has its source in the Serra azul northeast of Rosário Oeste and in its lower reaches forms the border between the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul .

From Cuiabá to its confluence with the Río Paraguay north of the city of Corumbá, it runs through the Pantanal and is navigable. The most important tributaries are the Rio São Lourenço and the Rio Piqueri on the left .
