Rio Tinto is a place and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in northern Portugal .
Rio Tinto is part of the county Esposende in Braga District . The community had an area of 4.3 km² and 642 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Rio Tinto and Fonte Boa were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Fonte Boa e Rio Tinto .
