Ribbed plate
In construction, a rib plate is a plate on which ribs are placed vertically to improve their resistance to bending or arching .
In track construction , a plate with two attached strips , between which the band-shaped foot of an attached rail is positively positioned transversely to it, is also known as a “ribbed plate”. The stop strips called ribs here are only slightly higher than the thickness of the rail foot and are not used to stiffen the plate. In the track superstructure K , the strips are interrupted in the middle.
Concrete slabs placed on footpaths with closely spaced low ribs (or vice versa: shallow grooves) are also called rib slabs. They can be felt with the feet and are used by the visually impaired for orientation z. B. in pedestrian zones and on platforms .
