Ritchey Design Inc. is an American manufacturer of bicycle components, founded and managed by Tom Ritchey .
Tom Ritchey was passionate about bicycles in the early 1970s and designed some of the first mountain bike frames for US manufacturers. The bicycle frame builder and designer, along with Joe Breeze and Gary Fisher, are considered to be the inventors of the mountain bike. Ritchey drove mountain bike and road races himself and tried to develop lighter and stronger components out of his own interest.
Many innovations in mountain bikes can be traced back to Ritchey design, such as the clipless pedals known from racing bikes . Today, Ritchey Design focuses on building bicycle parts for road bikes and mountain bikes, and designing and manufacturing bicycle frames primarily from steel.
The company exports to over 40 countries worldwide. In Germany, the company has taken over the sponsorship of the Ritchey MTB Challenge from the former sponsor TREK .
