The River Piddle (also Trent ) is a river in Dorset , England . The river arises at Alton Pancras , whose Anglo-Saxon name Awultune means 'place at the source of the river' (River Piddle). The Piddle flows in a south or south-easterly direction and essentially follows the River Frome , a little further south , into whose confluence it flows east of Wareham in the Wareham Channel of Poole Harbor . The River Piddle is one of the rivers whose washout contributed to the formation of Poole Harbor.
The River Piddle touches a number of small communities. The names of the places Puddletown , Tolpuddle , Piddlehinton , Piddletrenthide , Affpuddle , Briantspuddle , Turnerspuddle are all associated with the river, the name of which has been partially changed to 'puddle'.
