The River Antoine Rum Distillery is operated by RDFEnterprises Ltd. operated and is located in the interior of the island of Grenada near Lake Antoine . It is considered to be the oldest rum production facility in the Caribbean . According to the company, rum has been produced here since 1785.

Production facility

The rum will be held traditional still using methods today. The presses for extracting the sugar cane juice are operated with the help of a water mill . After pressing, the sugar cane juice is temporarily stored in copper basins under the production facility and concentrated until it can ferment in concrete tanks.

The production volume is small and the rum is produced exclusively for the local market . There are two types of white rum and a rum punch on offer . The rum produced for local buyers is called Rivers Royale Grenadian Rum and is sold as "slightly overproof " with 75% alcohol after five years of storage in oak barrels.

The second product is a 69% weaker brand that is mainly produced for the tourist market. The reason for this was safety regulations in aircraft that do not allow liquids with more than 70% alcohol to be carried. A ready-mixed rum punch is also offered, which combines Rivers rum with fruit juice , syrup and nutmeg .
