Riz Casimir (in unusual presentation)

Riz Casimir (also Reis Casimir ) is a Swiss dish made from rice , shredded veal , curry sauce , pieces of banana , pineapple and peach , garnished with roasted almond slivers and served in a ring made from long grain rice.

Although the curry and the tropical fruits suggest an exotic origin, Riz Casimir is said to be of Swiss origin. According to the Betty Bossi publisher and historian Roger Sidler, the dish was invented by the Mövenpick restaurant chain ; It has been on the menu in Mövenpick restaurants since 1952 . It was soon propagated in Swiss cookbooks, from 1960 by Elisabeth Fülscher and from 1968 by Betty Bossi. According to Sidler, this is a dish that reflects the increasing prosperity of post-war Switzerland and the wanderlust of the population. However, other sources deny that it is really a Swiss invention, especially since the recipe is said to be derived from Kashmiri dishes in Indian cuisine .
