Robert AJ Gagnon (* 1958 ) is Professor of New Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary . He was best known for his book The Bible and Homosexual Practice and is now a sought-after speaker.

Life

Gagnon received his bachelor's degree in history from Dartmouth College and studied theology at Harvard Divinity School . He received his PhD from Princeton Theological Seminary . In 1994 he began as an assistant professor at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, where he was promoted to associate professor in 2002.

He is particularly interested in Pauline theology and spirituality in the New Testament, the exegesis of Romans and 1st Corinthians. He also deals with sexual issues in the Bible, particularly Bible texts on homosexuality .

Robert Gagnon is an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) .

Works

In 2001, The Bible and Homosexual Practice was published , the first book dealing with conservative biblical interpretation of homosexual practice on an academic level ( The Bible and Homosexual Practice: Texts and Hermeneutics . 2001, Abingdon Press, Nashville, ISBN 0-687-02279-7 ) . Gagnon used the historical-critical and literary-critical methods and the professional level of his work and the unpolemical tone are recognized by well-known New Testament scholars and also by some people who do not share his views.

Numerous articles on homosexuality and reviews of books on gay theology followed. He has published some articles and reviews on his website.
