Robert Minlos (2000)

Robert Adolfowitsch Minlos ( Russian Роберт Адольфович Минлос , English transcription Robert Adolfovich Minlos; born  February 28, 1931 in Moscow ; † January 9, 2018 ) was a Russian mathematician who was particularly concerned with probability theory and mathematical statistical physics.

Minlos studied at Lomonossow University with Israel Gelfand , with whom he wrote a book in 1958 on the representation theory of the Dreh- und Lorentzgruppe , which is important in physics . In 1968 he completed his habilitation (Russian doctorate) with Andrei Kolmogorow (Mathematical Problems of Contemporary Statistical Physics). He was a professor at Lomonosov University and, with Roland Dobruschin and Jakow Sinai, was one of the directors of the seminar on statistical physics in Moscow and Dobruschin's successor as director of the laboratory for information transmission problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Dobruschin laboratory). He was also a professor at the Independent University of Moscow.

Minlos dealt in particular with mathematical aspects of physics, such as the mathematical basis of path integrals and representations of the Lorentz group, but especially statistical physics (theory of phase transitions, random paths, Ising model, entropy in the thermodynamic limit case , connections to quantum field theory, cluster developments and others).
