Robert Barth (entrepreneur)

Robert Barth (born October 25, 1922 in Zurich ; † March 29, 2007 in Rothrist ) was a Swiss entrepreneur and inventor of Rivella .

Life

While studying law, Barth acquired a recipe for a type of whey beer . In 1951, Barth founded the “Milkin Institute Robert R. Barth” in Stäfa . He bought second-hand machines, put them in a former wine shop, employed 14 people and started production in 1952. After a short time he was delivering to locations on Lake Zurich and in the city of Zurich. Barth developed the Rivella further and in 1954 he and his company moved into a new production facility in Rothrist.

In addition to his commitment to the Rivella company and its employees, Robert Barth worked for various organizations. From 1977 to 1983 he was a member and president of the board of trustees of Schweizer Sporthilfe . From 1979 to 1994 he chaired the board of directors of Bad Schinznach AG. He was the first Swiss citizen to hold the presidency of Rotary International in 1993/94 . In 2002 he received the honorary citizenship of Rothrist.

Barth was married and had three children. The eldest son Alexander and the daughter Christine took over the presidency of the board of directors of the Rivella Group in 2001.
