Robert Bartram

Robert Bartram ( March 13, 1859 in Braunschweig - May 18, 1943 ) was a German opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Bartram - the son of a master shoemaker - was encouraged in October 1886 by the board of the Schulzeschen Liedertafel in Braunschweig to train his voice for the stage. The young singer had himself examined by the Hofkapellmeister Riedel and sang “Heerrufer” in Lohengrin on October 10th with encouraging applause. Now he was determined to turn to the stage career and after taking appropriate singing lessons from Franz Krückl , he was hired on June 1, 1887 as a representative of the baritone field, which he sang alternately with a few bass buff roles for the Kassel court theater, after having previously when “Jäger Wolfram” and “Heerrufer” had performed there with great success.

He stayed in Kassel for 43 years and appeared here in over 6200 performances. In 1931 he said goodbye there.
