Franz Xaver Krückl , occasionally also Franz Krückel or Franz Krükl , (born November 10, 1841 in Edelspitz , South Moravia , † January 12, 1899 in Strasbourg , German Empire ) was an Austrian opera singer ( baritone ), theater actor , composer and singing teacher of Moravian origin .

Life

As a child, Krückl sang in the church choir of his hometown. On the recommendation of his pastor, he came to Vienna in 1851 to apply to the court orchestra . But only after two refusals was he appointed by decree of August 1855 to the Imperial and Royal Austrian Hofkapell-Sängerknaben . At the same time as the usual lessons at the Graeflich Löwenburgschen Konvikt , he learned to play the piano and violin and received singing lessons. He was also taught composition , including figured bass and counterpoint .

Krückl's first attempts at acting came from this time at grammar school; first in pure school events, then later small extras were added in “real” productions. He was also deeply impressed by the sample performances by the court orchestra and the Vienna Tonkünstler Society. Krückl's first compositions emerged from these experiences; including a mass, which, including graduals and offertory, was performed for the first time on November 8, 1856 in the parish church of Klosterbruck.

After graduating from high school, Krückl began to study law at the University of Vienna in 1858 ; In 1863 he finished his studies with a doctorate . Immediately thereafter, he found a job in the civil service. He resigned from this position the following year and became a partner in a Viennese law firm.

As a member of the Academic Choral Society , he took private singing lessons with Hofkapellmeister Felix Otto Dessoff , and later he took acting lessons with court actor Joseph Wagner . In 1868 Krückl resigned all of his mandates and gave up his profession as a lawyer. With the help and support of his two teachers, he was able to debut very successfully as "Ashton" on March 10, 1868 at the Brno City Theater .

From there he was brought to the court theater in Kassel , where he was seen for the first time on May 12, 1868. In 1871 Krückl moved to the Stadttheater Augsburg and worked there until 1874; occasionally as a director. In June 1871 Krückl met with his colleagues Ludwig Barnay and Ernst Gettke in Weimar to found the Cooperative of German Stage Members .

In 1874 he went to the city theater in Hamburg for seven years . There he made the acquaintance of Angelo Neumann , who hired him for his traveling Wagner ensemble . (between 1882 and 1883 over 130 Ring performances in 58 cities).

In 1883 Krückl left Hamburg and settled in Frankfurt am Main . There he was entrusted with a teaching position at the Hoch Conservatory until 1892 . In the summer of 1892 he accepted a position as artistic director at the Strasbourg City Theater . There he was able to celebrate his 25th stage anniversary on May 12 of the following year - cheered by the audience.

Shortly after his 58th birthday, Franz Krückl died on January 12, 1899 in Strasbourg, where he found his final resting place.
