Robert J. Bronner (born June 16, 1907 in New York City , United States , † September 9, 1969 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American cameraman .

Life

Bronner joined MGM at an early stage , to which he would in fact remain loyal throughout his entire professional life. Initially he worked in the matte painting department there and rose to become a camera assistant at the beginning of the sound film era . At the beginning of the 1930s, Bronner was allowed to work as a simple cameraman. His teacher for over two decades was the experienced picture artist George J. Folsey . Under his direction, the New Yorker was behind the camera in ambitious MGM productions Homesickness for St. Louis , Vacation for Love , The Legacy , The Best Man , The Gambler and Malaya in the 1940s .

It was not until 1954 that Robert Bronner was promoted to chief cameraman. Without developing an unmistakable style of his own, he photographed a considerable number of studio productions, some of which were expensive and glamorous, including a number of musicals and comedies, with and without music, in which stars such as Gene Kelly , Elvis Presley and Dean Martin occurred. Just ten years after his first job as head cameraman, Robert J. Bronner ended his theatrical work for William Dieterle's also last cinema director “Marry me, crook!” - the flick was a huge flop. After a few additional shots for the Jerry Lewis comedy " Three on a Couch " in 1965, Robert J. Bronner concentrated on working for series television and was involved in both the crime series "FBI" and the adventure series " The Seaview - from 1966 to 1968 " On a secret mission behind the camera.
