Robert E. Hopkins

Robert Evans "Hoppy" Hopkins (born September 21, 1886 in Ottawa , Kansas , † December 22, 1966 in Hollywood , California ) was an American screenwriter who was nominated for an Oscar for best original story.

Life

Hopkins began his career in the film industry in Hollywood as a writer of intertitles of silent films as The rag pickers (The Rag Man, 1925) by Edward F. Kline with Lydia Yeamans Titus , Ethel Wales and Robert Edeson in the lead roles. By 1937 he wrote the scripts and templates for forty other films and wrote dialogues for well-known actors such as Clark Gable , Jean Harlow , Lee Tracy , William Powell and Myrna Loy , especially for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer .

At the 1937 Academy Awards , he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Story for WS Van Dyke's 1936 feature film San Francisco, starring Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald and Spencer Tracy .

Hopkins was temporarily married to the actress and singer Grace Hayes and thereby stepfather of their son Peter Lind Hayes , who was also an actor and singer.
