action

Lawyer Dr. Winifred Lert is a divorced woman and since separating from her husband, Professor Paul Lert, has become a veritable contempt for marriage. Consequently, she has specialized in divorces. This would not be a problem if she did not press her daughter Susi vehemently with her convictions and strongly advise against getting married in the future. But there is a problem: Newspaper reporter Rolf Beckmayer, Susi's dearest, is already married to her, but Winifred's mother-in-law must never find out about it. And so now Susi has her hands full to play the farce of an unmarried pair of lovers together with Rolf, which at that time, in the 1950s, almost amounted to a scandal of enormous immorality. But this is Dr. Don't learn right now either. She is downright appalled at the ease with which young people today live out their love in public (and unmarried!).

Susi has finally brought her mother to where she wanted her. Outraged, the upright bourgeoisie demands that the couple should finally “legitimize” their love and specifically demands that Rolf marry their daughter. Because what the two "do" together in their Munich apartment is what Dr. Learn too far. Rolf and his wife Susi wouldn't be clever newspaper reporters if they didn't switch quickly and develop a smart idea from this situation. In return, both demand from Winifred that from now on she finally bury her phobia of marriage for herself. She should set a good example and prove her change from Saul to Paul in this matter, preferably to her ex-husband Paul! And so the former marriage hater Dr. Read again in front of the registrar, not without growling out the words "Make it short!"
