history

The village of Geyerswalde was founded in 1325 by Hans von Otatz and Peter von Geierswalde. It changed hands several times over the centuries. The first church in the village was burned down in 1410 during the armed conflict. In 1487 a new wooden church was built. This later Protestant church was replaced in 1780–1783 by a stone building with a tower from the west. Next to this was a memorial for those who fell in the First World War . Since the Second World War it has belonged to the Methodist Church and one of the most dynamic parishes in the voivodship. The Roman Catholic Church of John the Baptist was built in the 1980s.

After the Russian occupation in 1945, Geyerswalde was given the name Gierkowo , which was later changed to today's Gierzwałd . In the same year, the rural community Grunwald was formed and dissolved again in 1954. Since that year, the Gromadas Gierzwałd and Grunwald existed, which in turn were dissolved in 1973 with the re-establishment of the rural community. This was one of their villages as 1975-1998 for Province Olsztyn (Olsztyn)
