Robert Elmecker

Robert Elmecker (born September 25, 1942 in Summerau ; † July 21, 1997 in Linz ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and principal school director. Elmecker was a member of the Austrian National Council from 1979 to 1997 .

Life

Elmecker attended elementary school from 1948 to 1952 and then secondary school until 1957. He then moved to the teacher training institute, which he graduated with the Matura in 1963. Elmecker worked as a primary school teacher from 1963 to 1969 and then as a secondary school teacher until 1976 and in 1971 took over the post of principal school director. Between 1976 and 1979 he was an exempt member of the central committee for compulsory school teachers in Upper Austria.

Elmecker was involved in local politics and was a member of the municipal council of the market town of Windhaag near Freistadt from 1973 to 1979 as well as a member of the municipal board. In addition, Elmecker was local party chairman of the SPÖ Windhaag from 1968 to 1978. In 1979 he moved to Freistadt and was elected to the local council, of which he was a member until 1987. From 1979 Elmecker represented the SPÖ in the city council of Freistadt and held the function of the district chairman of the SPÖ Freistadt, between 1967 and 1979 he also acted as district chairman of the Socialist Teachers' Association of Austria and was deputy chairman of the public service union in the state section for compulsory school teachers. He represented the SPÖ from June 5, 1979 to April 30, 1997 in the National Council. Elmecker had to resign from his seat on the National Council due to a brain tumor, from which he died a short time later. His grave is in the Freistadt cemetery, in the new part. For many years he was chairman of the interior committee and security spokesman for the SPÖ parliamentary club.
