Robert F. O'Toole

Robert F. O'Toole SJ , also Bob O'Toole , (born June 20, 1936 in Overland (Missouri) , USA ) is an American theologian , professor and rector of the Pontifical Bible Institute from 1996 to 2002.

Life

Robert F. O'Toole joined the religious order of the Society of Jesus on August 8, 1954 . After studying philosophy (BA 1960 / Ph.L. 1961) and classical languages (MA 1961) at St. Louis University , he taught Latin at St. John's College in Belize from 1961 to 1964 . After further scientific studies in "Sacred Theology" (STL 1968) and Biblical exegesis (SSL 1970) at St. Louis University said and the Pontifical Biblical Institute , he was in 1975 at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome with Carlo Maria Martini with summa cum laude doctorate . From 1972 to 1974 he taught at the “Centro Universitario Regina Mundi” in Rome, then as assistant professor for theology at St. Louis University, from 1977 to 1984 associate professor, from 1984 to 1987 full professor. He was also active as director of the graduate program in theology, as director of the Institute for Biblical Languages ​​and Literature and as dean of the theological faculty.

In 1991 he moved to the Pontifical Biblical Institute (PIB) in Rome, where he was Vice Rector (1993–1996) and Rector (1996–2002), as well as Superior of the Jesuit Community. Since 2003 he has been President of the Foundation of the Pontifical Gregorian University .
