Robert Gerber

Robert Gerber (born February 26, 1953 in Boltigen , Canton of Bern ) is a Swiss canton politician and was the Swiss police commander in Grenchen for over 20 years until his retirement in February 2016 .

Life

Gerber trained as a farmer (Avully GE and Boltigen BE). In 1971/72 he attended the Hondrich mountain farming school. In the army he last held the rank of lieutenant colonel (chief police service of a territorial division). In 1982 he was elected to the Rubigen BE council. In 1983 he was elected Vice President of the Municipal Council. From 1986 to 1989 he was the municipality and council president (SVP). In 2004/05 he was a member of the Cantonal Council (FDP) of the Canton of Solothurn .

From 1977 to 1983 he worked for the Swiss Cooperative for Slaughter Cattle and Meat Supply (GSF). 1983 to 1989 he was the deputy of the district commander of Konolfingen. In 1989 he was elected by the Grenchen SO municipal council as the deputy commander of the Grenchen city police. On July 1, 1994, he took over the police force as commandant. On July 3, 2012, the Grenchen municipal council appointed him head of the security and emergency services (S + B), an association of police, fire brigade, rescue service and civil protection. He retired on December 31, 2015.

Since 2002 he has represented the Grenchen-Bettlach parish in the Synod of the Reformed Churches in Bern-Jura-Solothurn (church parliament with 200 members). In 2011/2012 he was its vice-president and in 2013/2014 its president.

On May 21, 2017 he was elected to the local council (FDP) of the city of Grenchen.
