Robert Hodel (born August 22, 1959 in Buttisholz ) is a Swiss Slavist .

Life

Robert Hodel studied at the University of Bern , the subjects Slavic Studies , Anthropology and Philosophy . In 1985/86 he spent an academic year in Leningrad and Moscow and in 1988/89 two semesters in Novi Sad . In 1990/91 he was a scholar at the Central European University ( Dubrovnik , Prague ). He received his doctorate in 1992 as an assistant at the Slavic Seminar in Bern with the dissertation Considerations on “skaz” with NS Leskov and Dragoslav Mihailović , followed by his habilitation in 1998 with the work Development of Experienced Speech in Russian Literature: From Karamzin to Fadeev, from “V zvezdnoj pustyne (In the starry desert) ”to“ Čevengur ”(A. Platonov) .

Since 1997 he has been teaching as professor for Slavic literature at the University of Hamburg .

Hodel is a member of the editorial board of Letopis Matice Srpske (Novi Sad), Zbornik Matice srpske za književnost i jezik (Novi Sad), Slavica Gandensia (The International Review of the Belgian Center for Slav Studies), Prace Filologiczne (Warsaw), Slavonica (Manchester) , Annales Pont (Koper, Slovenia), Novi Izraz (Sarajevo) and Književna istorija (Belgrade), honorary member of the Serbian Writers' Association (Srpsko književno društvo), member of the Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin , member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts ( SANU) and chairman of the Hamburg branch of the Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft (SOG).

In 2015 he was awarded the Petropol Prize for the anthology Before the window below are people and power .
