Robert Idl

Robert Idl (born August 2, 1958 in Lienz ) is a former Austrian football player .

He started playing football in his hometown at SV Nussdorf-Debant. From there he moved to Rapid Lienz ( Carinthian League ; third highest league) in the summer of 1976 . He had his best time as an attacking midfielder at FC Wacker Innsbruck and FC Swarovski Tirol from 1982 to 1988. Idl's greatest success was reaching the UEFA Cup semi-finals under coach Felix Latzke in 1987 with victories over CSKA Sofia , Standard Liege , Spartak Moscow and Torino Calcio . During this time he was also a member of the Austrian national Olympic team. After his return from SV Spittal, where he had played in 1988/89, he was again active as a player-coach in the 1989/90 season at Rapid Lienz (still the Carinthian League) and then ended his active career.

Robert Idl is married and has two sons. He lives in his home town of Nussdorf-Debant and teaches English and sports at the Federal Trade Academy in Lienz.
