Robert Kern

Robert James Kern (born March 29, 1885 in Iowa , † May 30, 1972 in Orange , California ) was an American film editor .

Life

Robert Kern began his film editing career in the early 1920s. The film In Golden Chains , shot in 1934 , marked the first collaboration with director Clarence Brown , and many other joint projects followed. Two other directors Kern worked with frequently were WS Van Dyke and Robert Z. Leonard .

Robert Kern was awarded an Oscar the following year for the children's film Little Girl, Big Heart , made in 1944. He had received his first nomination for this award in 1936 for the film David Copperfield .

His last work as editor was in 1952 with the film drama Schiff ohne Heimat , after which he retired.
