Robert Kuhnert

Robert Kuhnert (born February 22, 1863 in Neusalz an der Oder ; † February 10, 1947 in Blankenese ) was a German agricultural scientist .

Life

Kuhnert, son of the economist Friedrich Kuhnert, received practical agricultural training at the Deutschhaushof in Marburg / Lahn and two large farms in Silesia . From 1888 to 1899 he was an agricultural teacher and animal breeding inspector in Marburg an der Lahn and at the same time an expert on viticulture in the Rheingau, from 1899 to 1905 director of the agricultural winter school in Elmshorn , then director of the Probsteier agricultural school in Schönburg / Holstein, which was relocated to Preetz in 1907 . In 1918 he took early retirement for health reasons.

As a proven specialist in flax cultivation , Kuhnert was the secretary of the special committee of the German Agricultural Society (DLG) for flax cultivation and the committee's head of research (1898–1934). In 1900 he founded an experimental farm in Elmshorn at Gut Schäferhof near Hamburg and a marching test field in Raa near Elmshorn, about whose fertilization, cultivation and feeding experiments several publications appeared. In 1908 he was a co-founder of the Schleswig-Holstein Saatbauverein and its managing director until it was dissolved in 1934. Kuhnert also established potato culture stations in all the larger towns in eastern Holstein and is considered to be an important promoter of Holstein potato cultivation. He also made a name for himself as head of forest fertilization trials in Schleswig-Holstein and Silesia. From 1904 to 1934 he was secretary of the DLG special committee for forest fertilization.
