Robert Levy

Robert Levy (born April 4, 1953 in Freeport / New York ) is an American trumpeter, conductor, composer and music teacher.

Levy studied at Ithaca College (until 1966), the University of North Texas (until 1968) and at the University of Iowa (until 1970). From 1979 to 2004 he was Professor of Trumpet and Head of the University Band at Lawrence University in Appleton. From 2004–05 he conducted the wind ensemble and the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble at the University of Wisconsin – Madison .

As an interpreter of contemporary music, Levy has participated in more than one hundred and fifty world premieres as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor. He has performed with David Jolley , Martin Hackleman and Bill Scharnberg (horn), Chris Gekker (trumpet), Michael Powell (trombone), Dave Taylor and Thomas Everett (bass trombone), Sam Pilafian and Harvey Phillips (tuba) as well as Brian Bowman and Loren Marsteller (Euphonium) and toured with marimba player Gordon Stout as Wilder Duo . His discography includes recordings as a soloist, as a chamber musician and as a conductor, as well as several jazz albums.

Levy composed chamber music works, works for wind ensembles and jazz bands. More recently, u. a. Reflections for clarinet and trumpet (performed at the international meetings of the Trumpet Guild and Clarinet Society in 2010), And Stars Remain , Kaleidoscope and Tapestry for band and the orchestral work Hymn Song .
