Martin Hackleman

Martin Hackleman (* 1952 ) is an American horn player .

Life

Martin Hackleman began studying horn at the University of Houston with Caesar LaMonaca at the age of 16 . During this time he became principal horn with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra in 1972 . Barry Tuckwell and Roland Berger were among his teachers . From 1974 to 1983 and from 1990 to 1999 he was principal horn with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra . In the meantime he was a member of Canadian Brass for three years from 1983 , and played with Empire Brass for the next four years . Hackleman has been solo horn with the National Symphony Orchestra since 2000 .

In 1999/2000 Hackleman appeared with the Orchester symphonique de Montréal under Charles Dutoit and as a guest soloist twice with the Philadelphia Orchestra . He also performed with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra at the Waterloo Festival in New York . In Washington Symphonic Brass , he also plays the solo horn and took the Ensemble four CDs on.

Hackleman has been Professor of Horn and Artist in Residence at the University of Missouri-Kansas City since the fall of 2012. Before that, he was a lecturer at George Mason University , the University of Maryland , Boston University and, from 1990, Professor of Horn at University of British Columbia . From 1990 to 1995 he was music director of the chamber music show "Curio" at CBC Radio .

Martin Hackleman is a regular juror for Canada Council and visiting professor at the Banff Center in Alberta .

He is married to Kelly Ker Hackleman.
