Robert Madelin

Paul Robert Madelin (* 1957 ) is a British EU civil servant. From 2012 to 2015 he was Director General of the Directorate-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technologies of the European Union.

Robert Madelin went to school in High Wycombe and studied French and History at Magdalen College of the University of Oxford . He then joined the British administration in 1979.

Madelin joined the European Commission in 1993 . Until 1997 he was a member of Vice President Leon Brittan's cabinet . From 1997 to 2003 he was a director in the General Directorate for Trade and in January 2004 moved to the General Directorate for Health and Consumer Affairs as Director General . In 2010 Madelin took over the management of the General Directorate for Information Society and Media and finally in July 2012 the General Directorate for Communication Networks, Content and Technologies. From here he moved to the European Center for Political Strategy (EPSC) as a special advisor on innovation in 2015 , until he left the service of the Commission in July 2016.

Robert Madelin has been head of the think tank FIPRA International based in Brussels since October 2016.
