Robert Oliphant

Robert "Rob" Oliphant (born June 7, 1956 in Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario ) is a Canadian pastor of the United Church of Canada and a politician with the Liberal Party of Canada .

Life

Oliphant studied finance at the University of Toronto . He later studied theology at the Vancouver School of Theology , University of British Columbia . He was ordained in 1984 and then worked in various parishes, most recently from 1999 to 2008 in Toronto . In 2008 he received his doctorate of ministry from Chicago Theological Seminary .

Oliphant was an MP in the Canadian House of Commons from November 18, 2008 to 2011 . In the Canadian general election in 2015 he was able to return to the Canadian lower house as a member of parliament. Oliphant lives in Sherwood Park, Toronto with his life partner Marco Fiola, a linguistics professor at Ryerson University .
