Robert Scott (classical philologist)
Robert Scott (born January 26, 1811 in Bondleigh , Devonshire , † December 2, 1887 in Rochester ) was a British classical philologist and lexicographer .
He studied Classical Philology at Christ Church College, Oxford University , from 1830 . In 1835 he was ordained an Anglican priest. In 1854 he became a master at Balliol College , Oxford. From 1861 to 1870 he taught as Professor of Exegesis of the Bible at Oxford University. He was Dean of Rochester from 1870 until his death .
Together with Henry George Liddell he edited the Greek-English Lexicon . It was published in seven editions (1843, 1845, 1849, 1855, 1861, 1869 and 1882).
