Robert Stewart (composer)

Robert Stewart (born March 6, 1918 in Buffalo , New York , † 1995 ) was an American composer.

Stewart studied at the American Conservatory, where Leo Sowerby was one of his teachers. From 1954 to 1988 he was a music professor at Washington and Lee University . He was also President of the Southeastern Composer's League from 1968 to 1970 . He composed orchestral works, chamber music and works for solo instruments. I.a. he wrote music for the New York Brass Quintet, the National Symphony String Trio and the Stradivari String Quartet .
