Robert Stiassny

Robert Stiassny (born July 29, 1862 in Vienna ; † February 26, 1917 there ) was an Austrian art historian .

Robert Stiassny was born in July 1862 as the third child of Adolf Adolph Stiassny (1825–1906) and his wife Katharina geb. Weinberger (1830–1865) born in Vienna. He lost his mother at the age of three.

He was the curator of the cast museum of the Vienna Academy and private lecturer at the Technical University of Vienna.

Stiassny's main focus was the Austrian art history of the 15th and 16th centuries . His best known work was the altar by Michael Pacher in St. Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut . The not yet completed work was finished by Hans Tietze after the death of Robert Stiassny and published by Schroll in Vienna in 1919.

Stiassny died after a brief illness in February 1917 at the age of 54. He was unmarried.
