Robert Todd Carroll ( May 18, 1945 - August 25, 2016 ) was an American university professor and author. From 1977 to 2007 he taught philosophy at Sacramento City College in California, USA, and wrote numerous non-fiction books and essays .

Life

Caroll advocated atheism and critical skepticism . In 1994 he initiated the Skeptic's Dictionary online. It initially contained fewer than 50 articles, most of which were covered in pseudosciences . The lexicon later grew to include several hundred articles, many of which were translated into different languages.

Carroll's publications also received media attention outside of science.
