Robert Verdonk

Robert Verdonk (born August 31, 1943 ) is a Belgian romance scholar , Hispanist and linguist.

life and work

Verdonk studied Philology and Law at the University of Ghent . He passed the state examination in 1968 and received his doctorate in law in 1970. In 1976 he received his doctorate in Romance Philology from the Catholic University of Leuven and from 1978 to 2008 he held a chair in Romance Linguistics at the University of Antwerp . At the same time he held the Chair of Spanish Linguistics at the Catholic University of Leuven, part-time from 1986 to 2007. In 1990 he founded the Interfacultative Center for Mexican Studies in Antwerp. In 1995 he was appointed to the Chair of Spanish Studies at the Duques de Soria Foundation in Soria . Since it was founded in 1987 (until 2009) he was a member of the governing body of the Association for Spanish Language History ( Asociación de historia de la lengua española ).
