Robert van den Hoecke
Robert van den Hoecke (born November 30, 1622 in Antwerp , † 1688 ) was a Dutch painter and etcher.
Robert van den Hoecke, brother of Jan van den Hoecke , was a student of his father and was accepted into the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp in 1645.
He also worked as an architect, having been appointed by the King of Spain to be the superintendent of fortifications in Flanders. He painted cityscapes, folk festivals, battles, camp and march scenes, which contain extremely numerous, finely executed figures.
The Belvedere in Vienna owns a number of such images (the city of Ostend, field camp, ice skating in Brussels, nocturnal fire). He also etched 22 sheets from his pictures.
