Roberto Enrique Mata Gálvez

Roberto Enrique Mata Gálvez (* 1943 ) is a retired Guatemalan military and diplomat .

Mata Gálvez graduated from the Escuela Politécnica on October 1, 1976 and was then appointed non-commissioned officer. On July 27, 1982 he was given command of the Fuerza de Tarea Gumarcaj ( Quiché military zone ). From June 1984 to June 30, 1986 he was director of the Escuela Politécnica in Guatemala City . He was in command of the Base Militar Playa Grande, Guatemala (Ixcán) until January 18, 1986, and from January 28, 1986 to December 22, 1987, he was appointed head of the general staff by Marco Vinicio Cerezo Arévalo .

From March 1, 1988 to May 21, 1990, General Mata Gálvez was in command of Zona Militar 19, Huehuetenango , and from March 1, 1988 to April 1, 1989, he was in command of the Cuartel General of Guatemala City. In this function he stated in an interview: "We make no distinction between the Catholic Church and communist subversion."

From May 21, 1990 to September 4, 1990 he was sub-chief of the General Staff and from September 3, 1990 State Secretary in the Estado Mayor Presidencial. Until December 20, 1990 he was chief of staff. On December 31, 1990, he was appointed division general.

On February 10, 1991, he was retired from the Guatemalan Armed Forces. From December 6, 1995 to May 1, 1996 he was Ambassador to Taipei and 2001 to Santo Domingo . On February 14, 2003, he was given a special retirement allowance due to his position in the Guatemalan armed forces .
