Roberto Fontanarrosa

Roberto Fontanarrosa (born November 26, 1944 in Rosario , Argentina , † July 19, 2007 there ) was an Argentine writer and comic artist . He was best known by his nickname El Negro .

Life

At the beginning of his career, Fontanarrosa mainly drew comic strips on the subject of football. His best known strips, however, are about a gaucho Inodoro Pereyra and his talking dog Mendieta and Boogie el Aceitoso .

He also wrote three novels ( Best Seller , El área 18 and La Gansada ) and seven books of comic short stories ( Los trenes matan a los autos , El mundo ha vivido equivocado , No sé si he sido claro , Nada del otro mundo , El mayor de mis defectos , Uno nunca sabe and La mesa de los galanes ).

His work has appeared in a number of Latin American news papers.

In 2003 he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis , and from then on he was dependent on a wheelchair. On July 19, 2007, Fontanarrosa suffered respiratory failure and was taken to hospital. He died an hour later.
