Roberto Schwarz

Roberto Schwarz (born August 20, 1938 in Vienna ) is a Brazilian literary critic , author and literary theorist .

Life

Roberto Schwarz studied social science at the Universidade de São Paulo University and from 1958 to 1959 took part in a seminar on Karl Marx ' Das Kapital , in which the future Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso , his wife Ruth Cardoso , José Arthur Giannotti , Fernando Novais , Paul Singer , Octavio Ianni , Bento Prado Jr. , Francisco Weffort , Michael Löwy and Gabriel Bolaffi discussed together. He graduated in 1960 from his Masters at Yale University in the USA in 1963. In 1969 Roberto Schwarz went into exile in Paris and received his doctorate in Latin American studies from the Université de Paris III in 1976.

Since the late 1970s he has written several monographs and plays and has worked as a translator. Roberto Schwarz was professor for literary theory and comparative literary studies at the USP until 1968 and at the UNICAMP University from 1978 to 1992. In 2005 he took part in the literary festival Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty .
